What We Do
We at Magic Floor offer live immersive theatre, both indoor and outdoor theatrical experiences and training for young budding performers looking to develop and enhance their skills. Our projects range from transforming King’s Gardens in Thetford, Norfolk into the backdrop of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ to recreating the nightclub scenes of the North of England in the 1980s for John Godber’s ‘Bouncers’. All the while supporting our young people of Magic Floor Academy to master the three pillars of live performance; acting, singing and dancing.
Where to Find Us
Normally you can spot several of us, costumed, strutting about the centre of our hometown of Thetford in Norfolk. We believe Thetford has a fascinating history which should be celebrated. Which is why we do not very often stray far from home. That being said we have been known to venture across the border into Suffolk, performing at Bury St. Edmunds’ Market Cross and Stowmarket’s Primadonna Festival. One of the many benefits of our projects is the ability to pack them up into two/three cars and take them anywhere!
Our usual home however is the Carnegie Rooms or Guildhall in Thetford. These are the venues for most of our shows and our theatre school for young people.
Theatre for Education
As well as in our own school, we believe that theatre plays a vital role in wider education. Bringing to life characters from classic English literature, telling the stories of local historical heroes from the 17th and 18th centuries or putting all the lights, sound and staging to a GCSE or A-Level drama script. All of this can help someone find that spark of interest, which later turns into an abundance of passion for a subject or era or genre. Sometimes (in our case anyway) it can turn into complete obsession!
Some of the educational experiences we have had include perfoming John Godber’s Bouncers for performing arts students at Abbeygate Sixth Form in Bury St. Edmunds. For another Suffolk sixth form we recreated a court trial in Thetford’s own Guildhall, or as it was known back then ‘Thetford Assizes Court’ as part of our Tales of the Assizes project. But our performances are not just for students aged 17+. One of our other projects Holmes and Kable, has been seen by several primary schools in and around Thetford and Bury St. Edmunds. All performances have ended with a Q&A to give the students (and teachers) their chance to find out more and keep us on our toes!

Our Directors
The brains and creativity behind all Magic Floor projects, are the directing dream-team duo Katie and Craig. With years of experience in both the amatuer and professional theatre-world, Katie and Craig started Magic Floor Productions back in 2019. Their aim? To bring immersive theatrical experiences to Thetford and the surrounding areas. As well as help nurture the next generation of Thetford’s theatrical talent.
